The average small business in Australia deals with at least three or four vendors for their operational needs. One for IT. One for their website. Another for social media. A separate accountant. Maybe a bookkeeper on top of that.
Every vendor needs to be briefed. Every invoice needs to be paid. Every problem needs to be routed to the right person. And when something falls through the gaps — which it always does — you’re the one who has to figure out whose fault it is.
There’s a better way.
When your marketing team, your IT support, and your finance team are all the same team — things happen that couldn’t happen otherwise.
Your social media manager knows the campaign you’re running. Your IT support knows your systems are optimised for the traffic spike that campaign might generate. Your bookkeeper knows what the campaign is costing and can flag it in your cash flow forecast.
That’s the advantage of one provider. Not just convenience — actual business intelligence that improves decisions.
Genuine depth in each area
A provider that claims to do everything but does nothing well is worse than a specialist. Check that they have real capability in each service area — not just a checkbox on a list.
Ask about their IT certifications. Ask to see examples of websites they’ve built. Ask how they handle BAS lodgement. If the answers are vague, the capability probably isn’t there.
A clear process for each service area
Good providers have documented processes. They can tell you exactly what happens in the first month of an IT support engagement, how they handle a website project from brief to launch, or what their monthly accounting cycle looks like.
If the answer to “how does this work?” is “we’ll figure it out as we go,” that’s a red flag.
Proactive communication across service areas
The real value of a multi-area provider is the visibility they have across your business. That only works if they’re communicating proactively — not just responding to your tickets.
Ask: will you get a monthly summary? Will they flag issues before they become problems? Will you have a single contact who holds the full picture?
These three areas are more connected than most business owners realise.
Marketing and finance:
Every campaign you run has a cost. That cost should show up in your cash flow forecast. Your bookkeeper should know what you’re spending on ads so they can reconcile it correctly. And your marketing results should inform how much you’re budgeting next quarter.
IT and marketing:
Your website needs to be fast and secure. Your Meta pixel needs to be installed correctly for your ad campaigns to track conversions. Your email platform needs to connect to your CRM. None of this happens cleanly when IT and marketing are with different providers.
Finance and IT:
Your accounting software needs to be backed up. Your payroll system needs to be secure. Your financial data needs to be protected. These aren’t separate concerns.
Start by listing every vendor you currently pay for operational support. Count the invoices. Add up what you’re spending.
Then ask: could one team cover all of this? Would I save time? Would I get better outcomes?
